Our Story
30 Years of Craftsmanship, Character & Community
Wheatland Cabinets began in 1995 with a simple belief: the spaces we live in should feel intentional, functional, and beautifully made. Over the years, that belief has guided our growth into one of the trusted custom cabinet makers Chicago homeowners rely on for quality and craftsmanship.
This is our story.
Custom Cabinet Makers in Chicago — Where It All Started
Our founder discovered woodworking early — in a high school woodshop with a teacher who encouraged curiosity, creativity, and precision. Summers spent framing large homes introduced him to the wider world of construction and design.
It didn’t take long for him to realize that starting his own cabinet shop would give him the freedom to focus on the details he cared about most. That pursuit of independence, craft, and quality became the foundation of Wheatland Cabinets — a company that would eventually become one of the most established boutique custom cabinet makers Chicago has to offer.
Craftsmanship That Evolves With the Home
Design trends have changed dramatically since the mid-90s. Our early work included the ornate styles of the era — Corinthian corbels, grape-leaf appliqués, dental molding, deep glazes, and specialty distressing. As modern design gained popularity, we mastered specialty and custom finishes, ultra-clean lines just as thoroughly.
Today, homes call for something different — and as Chicago custom cabinet makers, we design spaces that feel warm, livable, and integrated with the rest of the home.

What Matters Most: Our People
Over the past 30 years, we’ve completed countless kitchens, built-ins, and custom pieces — but the work we value most is the team we’ve built along the way. Their craftsmanship, creativity, and genuine pride in their work define Wheatland Cabinets.
Our people’s care for the homeowners we serve is what makes us different, their dedication is one of the reasons we’re recognized as leading custom cabinet makers Chicago families continue to return to.
The Values That Guide Us
We believe in straightforward communication and clear expectations — with clients and with our team.
Every detail matters, from the inside of a drawer box to the finish on a panel.
We’re always refining our processes to do better work and deliver better experiences.
We’re proud to be part of the local community and are working toward future reforestation and tree-planting efforts.
30 Years Later — And Still Going Strong
Reaching our 30-year milestone is more than a celebration — it’s a reminder of why we do what we do.
As our founder often says:
“This work is my therapy. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Cabinetry is more than construction.
It’s craft.
It’s care.
It’s creating spaces that feel like home.
And while styles and trends may change, our commitment to thoughtful, beautifully made cabinetry will not.
